Lots of check and hearts for this quilt for my granddaughter. Each is unique. Thats so much more fun than making 56 of the same thing, besides being a great way to use up the left over squares already cut, and the scraps of black, white and red fabric. I was a little surprised to find that the “star” made this distinctly more like a flag than a quilt block…LOL.

Thomas Arthur Turner – Hollywood High School Yearbook Cartoons
Uselessness of the diploma, cartoon by Thomas Arthur Turner, circa 1925-30, and edit.
Brand Loyalty: LOL, who knows this feeling
This is a pillow for my daughter, just for the fun of it. BMW, flower fabric, quilted pillow.
And a couple quilt blocks, for a future project.
Checkers and hearts: quilt blocks
Feeling the need here to cast love to the world, so much is wrong, so much could change, so many would have better lives.
Quilt block here for my granddaughter’s quilt. She wanted checkers, and hearts and blacks and whites. I have used only scraps (since I have tons LOL). Blocks are 10″ square and I will put the quilt together with very small black and white checks as a sashing. Nothing perfect here, just playing games with scraps that have been sitting around for many years.
Checkers and hearts quilt top
Checkers and hearts quilt top mad all from scraps, no new basic square cut, everything just random. The hearts of course were cut out of the closest size scrap. Nothing new, not thread, not material, just for the love of getting rid of the scraps, and enjoying random chaos.
I could have planned a little more…. i think that some straight lines from top to bottom and side to side would have been comforting, but i chose to fit it all together “as it fell” so to speak.
Thomas Arthur Turner – Hollywood High School Yearbook Cartoons
Thomas Arthur Turner – Hollywood High School Yearbook Cartoons, circa the years of 1925 to 1930? Not sure when he attended. He was born in 1915 but certainly was into cartooning for the yearbook long before he graduated.
This one is obvious for the “catcher” at some point, an historic blooper, or call, who would know?. There are the original image, edited image (photoshop), and edited further (CorelDRAW). A tribute to my very talented and wonderful parent, father, inspiration.
Thomas Arthur Turner – Hollywood High School Yearbook Cartoons
Thomas Arthur Turner – Hollywood High School Cartoons circa 1920, around there, my father did cartoons for the high school yearbook. I thought i would share them, as originals, from the story boards that he glued them to for photography.
Roller skating…. obviously a face-plant. The image is as a jpg file for the Yearbook. Someone roller skating in a rink…
Quilt from recycled bed sheet and gingham scraps
Quilt from recycled bed sheet and gingham scraps, made for my granddaughter. Just fun stuff, and nothing new, (except the batting and a couple new sewing machine needles), no new thread, no new fabric… LOL.
3 foot tall gingerbread house
3 foot tall gingerbread house, made by 3 of my grandkids, and two of my kids this winter 2023, a throwback to decades ago when it was a yearly tradition. This is a pretty big gingerbread house, I think the biggest that we have done. I will add more pictures. Hopefully it will go to Ronald McDonald house in Cincinnati, or to the YMCA.
Quilt from Poly Flinters quilt scrap boxes, Cincinnati Ohio, Circa 1985
I loved to go down to 8th street Cincinnati Ohio where Poly Flinders had cutters and cut out the dress patterns for little girls dresses. The fabrics were wonderful, embroidery floss available, ribbons, buttons, and even some left over fabric by the yard. This was 40 years ago and I am still trying to use up some of those scraps. This quilt was a “lark” and in one box of scraps there were dozens of half circles made of light weight blue jeans material. I decided to use my very old singer (no embroidery stitches there, but just zig zag) to see if i could applique into the half circles. NO NEW THREAD FABRIC BATTING OR BACKING USED… 100% scraps.
Good for a little tom-boy, a little to flowery for a young man.
